Not the movie version.
The real one.
In 2023, I had the privilege of serving as a tour director for Mysterious Adventures Tours during their Halloween journey through Romania, and I can honestly say it remains one of the most unforgettable experiences of my life.
I’ve loved horror, gothic literature, classic monster movies, and vampire folklore for as long as I can remember. Walking through Transylvania wasn’t simply checking another destination off my travel list.

Halloween has always been my favorite time of year. But celebrating it in Romania completely changed my perspective.
Instead of plastic decorations and haunted houses, you’re surrounded by places where legends were born. You’re standing in castles older than your country. You’re hearing stories that inspired Bram Stoker generations before Dracula was ever written.
The line between history and folklore becomes beautifully blurry.
It’s impossible not to get swept up in it.
The Dracula Vampire Ball Is Worth the Trip All By Itself
If there’s one moment people ask me about more than anything else, it’s the Vampire Ball.

I’ve been fortunate enough to travel quite a bit over the years, and one thing has become very clear: A destination matters. The people matter even more.
One of my favorite memories from the 2023 tour wasn’t tied to a castle or museum. It was watching complete strangers become friends over the course of five days. By the end of the trip, people weren’t simply traveling together. They were sharing meals, laughing on the coach, comparing favorite horror movies, and making plans to travel together again.
There’s something wonderful about spending Halloween with people who understand why you get excited about vampire folklore, gothic architecture, and haunted history.
You never have to explain why you’re there.
